How To Set Up A Vpn On Your Router.
Let’s take a look at how to set up a VPN (a virtual private network) on your Wi-Fi router. Specifically, I’m going to tell you how to install a VPN on your router and use it to connect all the devices step-by-step. Firstly, you will need VPN software; it would be better to have a paid subscription to premium VPNs like ExpressVPN or any other VPN. Note: if you’re using a router given to you by your internet provider, the chances are that it may not work in some cases. We suggest you try to use a third-party router. If you want to avoid the hassle of setting up your VPN on the router, you can buy a router already set up for VPN use on the internet. Follow this link to know more about the ZTE H108N Wi-Fi Router. - For the PPTP option, click on the VPN client and add a new PPTP profile, and it will ask you for five things: Description (a particular name for your profile), VPN Server (the IP address), Username, Password, and PPTP option. This article will give you a brief idea about the PPTP option. So, the next step that follows would be to open your VPN (whatever VPN you prefer, and I generally use Express VPN) on another tab (second tab) and then on the website, look for the manual configuration option. It should show you two options, one for OpenVPN and another for PPTP. Then decide what country connection you wish to gain and copy that address and paste that address in the VPN Server of the router connection profile. In the router’s server description, you can write whatever you want to describe that profile, which is up to you. For the username and password, copy and paste those provided to you in the second tab (your VPN tab) into the VPN profile of the router. Keep the PPTP option as auto and click OK. This is for the PPTP option.
- For the Open VPN option, the procedure is as follows: While creating a profile for your router, now click make an open VPN profile instead of PPTP. This option will be provided once you click to create a profile. This time keep the option as an open VPN instead of PPTF, and it will ask you for four things: Description, Username Password, and Upload File. Click the open VPN option on the second tab, which is next to the PPTP option. Then click the place to which you want to direct your server, and it will ask you to download a file. Copy the username and password. Now go back to the router tab and fill up the details in the add open VPN option. Again, you can write whatever description you want. Then paste the username and password given to you on the VPN tab (second tab), and after that is done, you should upload the file you downloaded onto your computer or laptop through your VPN tab (second tab). You must upload the correct file as every different server will have a different file. Once that is done, select Okay (OK), and the profile will be created.
- After you created your preferred type of profile, click activate to make the connection to the server, and it might take a few minutes to activate, so be patient. If you’re connected to the desired server, it will generally show a checkmark beside the profile. Once activated, any device that connects to the router will automatically be directed through the server to which your router is connected. This way, you can create how many types of profiles you want of different countries on your router and then simply click activate on the profile and server you wish to use and keep changing the servers. Follow these steps carefully to set up a VPN on your router. It may be difficult to use a VPN app for a device where you can switch servers quickly, but setting up a VPN for your router will be like using VPN on all your devices at once as all the devices connected to the router will have the active VPN access. When you want to deactivate and come back to your default server, make sure you click deactivate on the active profile, or else the server you will still be connected to will be the server in the profile.
- If your router does not have a VPN functionality, you can flash your router, which is generally like changing the router’s operating system to something like Tomato or DD-WRT. You can simply go to the DDWRT or the Tomato website, search for your router, and download the necessary files to make your router VPN compatible.
