Food For Thought – Save Your Hard Earned Money

Food For Thought – Save Your Hard Earned Money

Hello Everyone,

Today I want to talk about Food. Food-For-Thought and that is something which is close to our heart and it is now part of our routine life. I am talking about food and especially outside food.

I know it is a trend now to have food in the restaurant and it is a part of luxury. But we are not noticing restaurant and small venders are charging us very high and it something which is not worth. I am not opposing them for the business they have, but I am not happy because they are charging us too high for the product they are delivering. I want to share a classic example of ‘Vada Pav’ in Mumbai still it is sold at Rs 10 but in Ahmedabad, they are charging almost 25-30 Rs. In today’s world, I see everyone thinks they are getting a better deal, we are not looking at this price hike and how these venders are making us fool.

We as a Gurjarti are smarter, but not sure why in this thing we are acting as if we don’t-know-whats-going-on or we are ready to be fooled by vendors who are making 60% to 70% profit. Of course, we all can argue that no one is forcing anyone to have food at a certain place but the main point is when the whole system is united there is little we can do.

We need to add a full stop to this before it is too late. We have to start talking about this and let’s bring change for people who are working really hard to earn. People with low salary is suffering because we are not taking any action and not understanding the criticality of this price hike. We proudly talk our government is not doing anything for us. My question is are we doing something for ourselves against something which is not correct.

Many people who are staying alone, don’t have any choice but to have food outside and because of such incorrect pricing, they have to plan their budget, which they should not as food is the basic rights of every human. And to make it affordable is our duty. In India, we have many states where the price of food is suitable.

We are fine to give them a profit which they deserve,  I want to share the latest example of cold coffee if I count raw material all it will cost Rs. 20 and not more than that but what I pay ?? Rs.70. That is almost 3 times the basic value.

I will request all to think for a few minutes about your last weekend what food you had and what you paid was worth. Am sure you will not agree that what you paid was worth it because quality and price are not matching in many places.

My request to you all to note down 10 items you buy for local vender like Vad Pav. Once you have done it please put the price of that item according to you is the best to buy for example Rs 10 is the best buy for me. Now check price card for your local vendor in the area and compare that with your thought process.

If you ask this to local vendors why he is charging so high they will be rude to you and tell you to mind your business. Trust me I have tried it many times. Because of which I am writing this article because I think many mid-class men like me will be suffering this pain.

We have to stand up for society and we have to raise our voice. We are happy to buy but not at price which is incorrect. I have seen many ladies disputing with vegetable vendors for a small amount.

Why we cannot do this with these people who are running at a 50% to 60% profit margin.  I will request all to start talking to your friend and family trust me we will save a huge amount of our hard earn money for our future. We all are experiencing it, when we go for a movie, how much we are spending on movie tickets Vs for Pop-Corn?

Let’s be a smart customer and let’s make them understand that we cannot be fooled anymore. If their price is correct then we are ready to pay.  With this article let’s go for the restaurant or food vendor with the correct price and quality food.

I will request you all post restaurant name or vendor name with the correct price and quality for each area in Ahmedabad and Gujrat and so everyone can benefit from this. I am sure they will help us with each other to save a huge amount of money and we can explore new possibilities.

The name for this satyagraha is “Value for Money Movement“. Let’s run this in Gujarat, so we will be able to improve our economic condition and invest our money on something which is worth.

Food is not the only item on which has this incorrect price issue, apart from this there are many items for which we are paying the incorrect prices. Le’ts start asking questions and answers will come on its own. Recently I have seen even big film/tv stars are posting in their Twitter handle when they come across such an incident. Rahul Bose did share his experience in his Twitter Handle. If he can do this, Why can’t We !!

There might be a good chance that business might earn little less then what they are earning now. But this is for good of all society we need to be united. Trust me you will also be happy once you get the true value for money.
